Survey of India celebrates 250th anniversary of its foundation on Monday

New Delhi, Apr 10 (IBNS): Union Minister for Science & Tech and Earth Sciences Dr Harsh Vardhan on Monday inaugurated the Naksh-e Portal, on the occasion of the 250th Anniversary of Survey of India, in New Delhi.

The Survey General of India was established by the British East India Company in 1767. Later it came to be known as the Survey of India.

On Monday, it observed the 250th anniversary of its foundation.

Today, the Survey of India, the National Survey and Mapping Organization of the country under the Department of Science & Technology, it is said to be the oldest scientific department under the Government of India.

The Naksh-e Portal is for free download of OSM maps in PDF format for public use through Aadhar based user authentication, the Survey of India said on Monday.


Dr. Harsh Vardhan also addressed the gathering during the anniversary celebration.

Secretary, Department of Science and Technology, Prof. Ashutosh Sharma, was also present.
