Sushma steps in after Manipur girl alleges racism at Delhi Airport

New Delhi, July 11 (IBNS): External Affairs Minister Sushma Swaraj on Sunday promised a Manipur girl to help her out after the latter posted on Facebook an incident she faced at the Delhi Airport, reports stated.

The alleged incident was termed racist by Monika Khangembam, the girl, who said that the immigration officer asked her offensive questions in order to ascertain her Indianness.

Describing her ordeal, Khangembam, who hails from Manipur, said that the officer asked her to name all the Indian states and the states Manipur shared its border with.

Upon being told that she'll miss the flight, the officer went on with the probe and refused to budge, stating that the flight will not leave without taking her.

Reacting to this in a two part tweet, Sushma said, "Monika Khangembam - I am sorry to know this. Immigration is not with me."

"I will speak to my senior colleague Shri @rajnathsingh ji to sensitise Immigration officials at the airport," she added.
