Tamil actress arrested for running prostitution racket
Chennai, June 4 (IBNS): Tamil television actor Sangeetha Balan has been arrested for allegedly running a prostitution racket in Chennai, media reports said.
Satish, her male partner, has also been arrested.
Several women from different states were rescued from a resort in Chennai and sent to a rehabilitation centre, police said.
The racket was allegedly being run from a villa located at Panaiyur on East Coast Road.
The raid was conducted by the Anti-Vice Squad of Tamil Nadu police following a tip-off, reports said.
The police said the team received information that the duo would lure young women promising well-paid jobs in private firms and chance to be cast in movies or television serials.
Sangeetha made her debut in the Tamil film industry with Karuppu Roja in 1996.
She had appeared in several Tamil television serials such as Vani Rani, Chellamay, Sabitha alias Sabapathi, Aval, Annakodiyum Aindhu Pengalum, Pillai Nila and Valli.
Sangeetha has also acted in movies like Tamilselvanum Thaniyar Anjalum and Karuppu Roja.
