Chennai, Mar 8 (IBNS) : Former Tamil Nadu Chief Minister O Panneerselvam on Wednesday led a day-long hunger strike demanding CBI probe into former Chief Minister and former party general secretary Jayalalithaa’s death, reports said.

Chennai's Rajarathinam Stadium, demanding a probe into late chief minister J. Jayalalithaa's death.

The hunger strike, which began at the city's Rajarathinam Stadium at 9 a.m. will  end at 5 pm.

Paneerselvam, who has been fighting a turf war within the ruling AIADMK with the rival Sasikala camp, raised questions over the treatment Jayalalithaa had received and the real reason for her death.

Paneerselvam succeeded Jayalalithaa as Chief Minister, but was later replaced by E Palaniswami, a protege of Sasikala, last month.

On Monday last, Chief Minister  Palaniswami-led Tamil Nadu Government released a 19-page health report of the late AIADMK supremo, claiming that the  AIIMS doctors examined Jayalalithaa five times.

On February 28, twelve  AIADMK MPs met President Pranab Mukherjee in New Delhi and handed over a petition seeking a probe into the medical treatment provided to Jayalalithaa before her death on December 5, 2016.

They also sought a probe into the incidents that occurred at Jayalalithaa's Poes Garden residence on September 22, 2016 before she was admitted to the hospital.
