Tamil Nadu: Priest murdered, another hurt during suspected robbery bid in temple

Theni, May 4 (UNI) A septuagenarian priest was bludgeoned to death and another seriously injured in a suspected robbery bid at the ancient Sri Boodha Narayana Swami Temple at Surulimalai, here in the wee hours of Saturday.

Preliminary reports said the priests Malaiyan (71) and Balasubramani (59), who were sleeping at the temple raised alarm, after two unidentified robbers attempted to broke the Hundi.

The suspected dacoits attacked both the priests with iron rod indiscriminately and escaped from the temple premises.

Malaiyan, who sustained head injuries died on the spot, Balasubramani was admitted to the government medical college hospital in a critical condition.

Superintendent of Police Bhaskaran visited the temple and held inquiries.

Police have registered a case and are searching for the dacoits.
