Teacher held under POCSO Act in Himachal Pradesh

Shimla/UNI: A government school teacher has been arrested under the Protection of Children from Sexual Offences Act, after a complaint of Department Sexual Harassment committee, police said here on Wednesday.

Superintendent of Police Una, Divakar Dutt Sharma said that a Sanskrit language teacher identified as Kushaal was booked under 354 of IPC and POCSO act.
According to Mr. Sharma, 11 students of Government Senior Secondary School in Haroli lodged a complaint with the principal.


The Principal constituted an Anti-Sexual Harassment committee in which 30 girl students accused their teacher of touching them in an inappropriate manner with sexual advancement.


The accused Kushaal posted as a Shastri or language teacher in the school.


After the FIR, accused suspended and a departmental inquiry has been ordered by the Deputy Director of Higher Education against him.


On October 29, Himachal Pradesh Police had booked a teacher namely Sanjay Deshta of Senior Secondary School Tikkar in Shimla district. He was also indicted by Sexual harassment committee . The accused was released on bail by the Himachal Pradesh High court recently.
