Telangana: BJP gives boycott call after Akbaruddin Owaisi made Interim Speaker

Hyderabad/IBNS/UNI: The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) has boycotted the oath-taking ceremony of MLA-elects after AIMIM lawmaker Akbaruddin Owaisi was made the interim Speaker, media reports said.

BJP MLA T Raja Singh, who represents the Goshamahal assembly constituency, said he would never take oath in front of AIMIM.

"Can I take oath in front of a person (Akbaruddin Owaisi) who made anti-Hindu comments in the past," Singh said as quoted by NDTV.

In last month's election, which was won by Congress, BJP won eight seats while AIMIM won one less.

Congress assumed power for the first time in the 119-member assembly winning 64 seats as opposed to 39 of Bharat Rashtra Samithi (BRS).

Governor Dr. Tamilisai Soundararajan on Saturday administered the oath of office to Owaisi, as Member of Legislative Assembly (Pro-Tem Speaker) of Telangana State Legislative Assembly.

Chief Minister A Revanth Reddy and his Cabinet ministers, Chief Secretary, and other dignitaries were present on the occasion.
