Three arrested in the killing of engineer in Kolkata's Maddox Square
According to reports, police from Ballygunge Police Station and officials of Kolkata Police's homicide department arrested three residents of Maddox Square area- Subhamay Jana alias Babusona, Ranadip Sarkar alias Bishal and Surajit Tikadar- for their direct involvement with the murder.
"We have nabbed three suspects from the locality. We found their direct involvement with the case. They are being interrogated. Our search operation is still on to catch more three persons, involved in the case," one senior official of Kolkata Police told IBNS.
Earlier on Friday midnight, a 29-year-old engineer old engineer, Ramit Mondal, was beaten to death on a night out with friends, during a clash with a local group at Maddox Square.
Explaining the incident, the police officer said, "Ramit Mondal and his four friends, who all are the residents of Sonarpur in West Bengal's South 24 Parganas district, went on a night trip on Friday. After buying biryani from an outlet at Park Circus area, they went to Maddox Square to have those."
"Over some issues, which is not clear yet, they engaged in a clash with a local group. Few local youths beat Ramit badly and hit on his head with a heavy slab. We have recovered the slab from the area. Their car was also ransacked. Ramit was rushed to a hospital nearby and shifted to a private hospital near EM Bypass area later. He died there on Monday," the official said.
Since the incident was reported, police had quizzed Ramit's friends, who were accompanying him that night, and examined CCTV footage of the area to come to a conclusion.
