Patna, May 13 (UNI): An FIR was registered against BJP candidate Sanjay Jaiswal while two more FIRs were lodged at Ghodasahan police station in East Champaran district on Monday in connection with BJP candidate`s bodyguard open fire to ward off an attack by a mob laced with wooden sticks allegedly having links with a particular party.

Sikrahana sub-divisional police officer Alok Kumar Singh said that local people registered an FIR against BJP sitting MP and party candidate from West Champaran constituency Jaiswal accusing him of reaching polling booths in procession and making a provocative speech.

He said, on the other hand, Jaiswal also registered an FIR against miscreants.

Singh said that police had also registered an FIR in connection with the unsavoury incident.

Additional Chief Electoral Officer Sanjay Kumar Singh said that action would be taken against all guilty people after the investigation into the incident was over.

As it is, a mob had tried to attack BJP candidate from West Champaran Jaiswal when he reached at polling booth numbers 162 and 163 under Narkatia assembly segment in East Champaran district, falling under West Champaran Lok Sabha constituency during the polling on Sunday.

The MP`s bodyguard had opened fire in the air and escorted him to a room safely.

According to the additional director general of police (Headquarters) Kundan Krishnan, lathi-wielding miscreants had tried to attack Jaiswal as his bodyguard opened fire in the air to scare them.

Jaiswal had reached the polling booths when he was informed by somebody that his supporters were not being allowed to cast their votes.

He said the MP escaped unhurt in the incident even as the bodyguard claimed that he opened fire it to save MP from the mob fury. MP`s vehicle was, however, damaged in the attack.
