Three of 10 Goa Congress MLAs who joined BJP to get cabinet berths

Panaji, July 13 (IBNS): Three of 10 Congress MLAs of Goa who have recently joined the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) will be inducted to the cabinet of Chief Minister Pramod Sawant in the state, media reports said.

Sawant, the Chief Minister of BJP-ruled Goa, will induct four new ministers.

Former opposition leader Chandrakant Kavlekar will be sworn in ad the Deputy Chief Minister.

The cabinet expansion will take place at 3 pm.

On Thursday, all ten former Congress MLAs- Chandrakant Kavalekar, Atanasio Monserrate, Jennifer Monserrate, Nilkant Halarnkar, Tony Fernandes, Francis Silveira, Wilfred De Sa, Filipe Neri Rodgrigues, Clafasio Dias and Isidore Fernandes- met BJP president Amit Shah and working president Jagat Prakash Nadda.

Sawant said the 'merger' of the rebel group and the latest political development would strengthen the BJP-led government in the state. He claimed that the rebels have decided to join BJP unconditionally and there would be no expansion of the cabinet immediately.

"We have seen Chief Minister Sawant's working style. He is working for the progress of the state. We decided to join hands with him," Kavlekar said.

Kavalekar also said, “We have merged into the BJP only with the objective to work under Prime Minister Narendra Modi". He also blamed 'disunity' within the Congress for party's failure in Goa and also at the national level.
