TMC accused of attacking West Bengal BJP president Dilip Ghosh's convoy in East Medinipur

Kolkata, Sep 17 (IBNS): Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP)'s West Bengal president Dilip Ghosh's vehicle was allegedly ransacked during a clash between the activists of the saffron outfit and the ruling Trinamool Congress (TMC) at Contai in East Medinipur district on Monday afternoon, reports said.

Ghosh alleged that he went to attend an organizational meet of his party at Janamangal Samabay Krishi Unnayan Samiti's convention centre near central Contai bus stand and soon after he entered the hall, hundreds of TMC supporters attacked his vehicle and BJP activists standing nearby.

"Under the leadership of TMC MP from Tamluk Lok Sabha constituency- Dibyendu Adhikari, a large number of TMC hooligans attacked my vehicle and our party members in the presence of police force," Dilip Ghosh told IBNS.

During the clash, several motorcycles of BJP supporters were vandalized while Ghosh's SUV windshield and window-glasses were disintegrated.

"At least eight BJP activists were injured in the 'unprovoked' attack by TMC and three of them are undergoing treatment at local hospitals in critical condition," Ghosh said.

"This was the seventh strike by TMC against me and fortunately I escaped the attack unhurt. Police were completely inactive during the clash," the state BJP president added.

Meanwhile, TMC MP from Tamluk, Dibyendu Adhikari, claimed that the incident was an outcome of an inner-party tussle of BJP.

"It was a tussle between two groups of BJP and none from TMC was involved in the attack," Adhikari told IBNS.

"It's very unfortunate that BJP president Dilip Ghosh is blaming me for the attack when I did not have any idea about the incident," the TMC MP added.

A local police official said that a heavy police force along with Rapid Action Force (RAF) and combat force had been deployed to the scene following the clash.
