TMC MLA Satyajit Biswas murder case: Bengal CID names BJP MP Jagannath Sarkar in charge sheet

Kolkata/IBNS: BJP MP from Ranaghat Lok Sabha constituency in West Bengal's Nadia district, Jagannath Sarkar, has been named as an accused in a supplementary charge sheet filed by state Criminal Investigation Department (CID) in connection with TMC MLA Satyajit Biswas murder case, officials said.

Sources in the CID said that BJP MP Jagannath Sarkar had been framed under IPC sections 302 (murder) and 120B (criminal conspiracy) in the supplementary charge sheet, which was filed before a Ranaghat court on Monday.

Earlier on Feb 9 in 2019, 40-year-old TMC MLA from Nadia's Krishnaganj assembly constituency, Satyajit Biswas, was shot dead at a Saraswati puja pandal at Fulbari area near his home.

His family lodged a complaint with Hanskhali Police Station against five persons, including TMC-turned-BJP leader Mukul Roy and four locals- Abhijit Pundari, Sujit Mondal, Kartik Mondal and Kalidas Mondal.

After beginning probe, police arrested all persons named in the FIR, except Mukul Roy, and later CID had taken over the investigation into the case.

On May 8 last year, the CID had filed its first charge sheet in connection with the case, naming Abhijit Pundari and Sujit Mondal, adding another name- Nirmal Ghosh, and removing the names of Kartik and Kalidas Mondal from the accused list.

They all were charged under sections 302 and 120B of IPC and sections 25 and 27 of Arms Act.

BJP MP Jagannath Sarkar, who has been named in the supplementary charge sheet on Monday, was earlier interrogated by the CID at its headquarters in Kolkata's Bhabani Bhawan in connection with the murder.

Jagannath Sarkar denied his involvement with the crime and claimed that he was being connected with the murder just because of the state's ruling party's political vendetta.
