TMC MP Shatabdi Roy returns over Rs 30 Lakh to ED

| @indiablooms | Sep 04, 2019, at 06:14 pm

Kolkata, Sep 4 (UNI) Tolloywood-actor-turned Trinamool Congress MP Shatabdi Roy today claimed that she has returned Rs 30,64,000, which she had received for being the brand ambassador from the scam tainted and defunct Saradha Group, through a bank draft addressed to the Enforcement Directorate at its Salt Lake office.

The two-time MP from Birbhum in West Bengal Shatabdi Roy in end of July had told the two central investigating agencies - CBI and ED - that she wanted to return the money which she had received from the Saradha group as its brand ambassador.

She said she wanted to return the money like that of Bollywood actor Mithun Chakraborty.

Mithun had returned more than Rs 1 crore to the central investigating agency probing the money trail of Saradha Group, which was exposed in 2013 as a big chit fund scam and denied money to its investors.

A media report today said that Shatabdi Roy returned Rs 30,64,000 by a bank draft and mailed to the ED office after consulting with her advocates.

The actor wanted that her money, which she got from the Saradha after deducting TDS, should be returned to the investors.

The report said the ED, however, wanted to seize the money by attaching her bank accounts.

Shatabdi Roy had been interrogated by the central investigating agencies in connection with Saradha and Rose Valley cases and ED sleuths.
In 2015, former Trinamool Congress Rajya Sabha member Mithun Chakraborty had returned the money he had received from Saradha. Mithun had returned over Rs 1.19 crore to the ED through a bank draft.
