TN CM unveils MGR birth centenary arch, sans fanfare

Chennai, Feb 27 (UNI) Tamil Nadu Chief Minister K Palaniswami on Wednesdayunveiled the MGR birth centenary arch on the arterial Kamarajar Salai in the city.

Palaniswami unveiled the arch at a function held at the State Secretariat.The arch unveiling event was devoid of any ceremony or fanfare in view of the High Court order.

The 66 ft wide and 52 ft high arch was built at a cost of Rs 2.52 crore to mark the birth centenary of the Late chief Minister, AIADMK founder and Bharat Ratna MGR.

While allowing the State government to unveil the arch without any ceremony, the Court had stated that only the green net covering the arch should be removed as part of unveiling it.
