Toll in NTPC boiler explosion rises to 32
Raebareli, Nov 3 (IBNS): The toll in the NTPC boiler explosion in Uttar Pradesh's Raebareli has risen to 32, media reports said.
On Wednesday, a boiler blast in the National Thermal Power Corporation (NTPC) plant in Unchahar leaving several dead and many injured.
Meanwhile, according to a tweet from the Prime Minister's Office, Prime Minister Narendra Modi " has approved an ex- gratia of Rs. 2 lakh each for the next of kin of those who have lost their lives due to the accident at the NTPC plant in Raebareli, Uttar Pradesh. PM has approved Rs. 50,000 each for those injured due to the accident."
The PM tweeted to say, "Deeply pained by the accident at the NTPC plant in Raebareli. My thoughts are with the bereaved families. May the injured recover quickly. The situation is being closely monitored & officials are ensuring normalcy is restored."
An inquiry has been set up by the NTPC management to investigate the reasons for the accident.
A magisterial inquiry into the incident has been ordered, The Times of India reported on Thursday.
According to local reports, the blast occurred while cleaning the boiler.
"All possible measures are being taken to provide immediate relief to the families of affected people in close coordination with the district administration," the statement added.
Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath has announced a compensation of Rs 2 lakh for the families of the deceased, Rs 50,000 for the seriously injured and Rs 25,000 for those with minor injuries, media reported.
