Too much interference from Lodha will kill cricket: Digvijaya Singh

New Delhi, Oct 4 (IBNS): Expressing concern over cricket's future in India, Congress General Secretary Digvijaya Singh said that too much interference from the Lodha panel will prove harmful for the game.

"No doubt BCCI functioning needed to be looked into but with due respect to Justice Lodha his too much interference would kill Cricket," he tweeted.

The BCCI said on Monday that it is contemplating aborting the ongoing India-New Zealand series following the freezing of their accounts by the Supreme Court appointed Lodha panel.

Floating another tweet, Singh said that the BCCI should be given credit as cricket is bringing laurels for the nation.

"Cricket is the one of the games today which is bringing Glory to our Country. Due credit should be given to Cricketers and also the BCCI."

India recently reached the top of ICC charts in Test rankings after trouncing New Zealand at the Eden Gardens on Monday, therefore taking an unassailable lead in the series.

"Witch hunting Justice Lodha would kill the game and bring disrepute the Country," Singh said.

Questioning the Lodha panel, who froze the BCCI's accounts for disbursement of funds to state associations, Singh asked, "Why should you object to BCCI giving funds to State Boards which are the Nurseries of Cricket ?"

In a subsequent tweet the Congressman asked Justice Lodha to 'relax and enjoy the upcoming Test matches'.

"BCCI has not only given funds to Cricket but other games also. So just relax Your Lordship and enjoy the Test Series and coming IPL," he said.

Voicing support to the BCCI, he said that the cricket body is free to give passes they deemed fit.

"Of course BCCI should be liberal in giving adequate number of free passes to all who matter !" Singh's tweet read.
