Traffic personnel assaulted by bikers in Kolkata, cops beaten in E. Midnapore

Kolkata, Feb 14 (IBNS): Three traffic police personnel were allegedly manhandled in Kolkata by reckless bike riders in last 48 hours and two policemen were beaten badly by local club supporters at Mahishadal area in West Bengal's East Midnapore district on Saturday night, according to reports.

One traffic home guard- Radhanath Sikdar- was allegedly beaten by a rough biker on Friday at the crossing of College Street and Colootola Street in north Kolkata when he tried stop a bike which violated one-way traffic rule there. The attacker- Prithabas Shaw- was arrested.

However, injured traffic home guard was taken to a local hospital and discharged after first-aid.

Another incident was reported on Saturday morning from Mahajati Sadan area in north Kolkata, where a traffic police constable-Pradeep Banerjee- was assaulted by two rough bikers.

One of the attackers- Ranit Dutta- was arrested from the spot, while another- Juneid- is absconding.

A couple, who was riding bike without helmets, allegedly manhandled a traffic sergeant- Krishnendu Das- at Baishnabghata under Patuli Police Station area in southern Kolkata on Saturday afternoon when their bike was stopped by the policeman.

The couple was detained and taken to Patuli Police Station where they got bail. Police surprisingly charged the couple, who assaulted an on-duty government staff, under motor-vehicles acts only, not under IPC.

From January, Kolkata Police personnel have been assaulted four times at several locations in the city, according to police reports.

Meanwhile, two policemen were allegedly beaten by local club supporters at Mahishadal Cinema more area in East Midnapore district on Saturday night, when they intervened into a clash between two clubs, reports said.

According to reports, two clubs engaged in clash with each other over a cultural programme. When police reached the spot and tried to intervene, two police constables were beaten badly. One of them is sustaining with head injury and another with an injury in right-eye.

At least two accused were arrested from the spot and got bail from the police station itself on Sunday morning.

However, when was asked about the incident, East Midnapore SP Alok Rajoria avoided to speak.
