Tripura identifies 22 people who visited Delhi during Tablighi Jammat in Nizamuddin

Agartala/ UNI: Tripura government has started testing for coronavirus with the identification of as many as 22 people from the state who had visited the Covid-19 hotspot in Delhi between March 14 and16 last, exactly during the Tablighi Jammat in Nizamuddin.

However, official sources here said except six or seven people, all were Hindus and some of them are still in Delhi.

All these people have been instructed to immediately go into self-isolation and report to the concern officials about their health and any other symptom similar to Covid-19.

Chief Minister Biplab Kumar Deb appealed to the people who had joined Tablighi Jammat or came in contact with anybody who had attended the event, to contact the state health department.

He, however, asserted that as of now Tripura has no positive case of Covid-19 and state has been observing lockdown sincerely which will be continued till April 14 next.

Soon after a 52-year-old man tested COVID-19 positive in Karimganj of South Assam, close to the northern district of Tripura, the authorities sounded an alarm against the possible outbreak, he said.

Earlier, Inspector General of Police G S Rao had also confirmed that there were people from Tripura who had participated in the religious congregation.

“The report from Delhi reached us and we have shared the inputs with the health department,” Rao said and added some measures were also being taken locally to trace those who have a travel history to Delhi or its surrounding th area at that particular period of time.

Though there have been no confirmed cases of COVID-19 from Tripura, as many as 6761 persons are kept under surveillance, including 67 people in government quarantine facilities. A total of 36 people put under quarantine have international travel history.
