Twitter hails TMC MP Mahua Moitra for fiery speech on fascism and BJP; Md. Salim asks her party to lead by example

New Delhi, June 26 (IBNS): Lok Sabha MP Mahua Moitra, who belongs to West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee's Trinamool Congress (TMC), on Tuesday launched an unsparing attack on the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) with her maiden speech in the parliament, earning heaps of praises on internet. However, she was also reminded by some politicians that her passionate speech on dangerous signs of fascism as seen in the action of BJP holds true to her own party TMC also.

In her address amid frequent uproar from the ruling BJP in the Lok Sabha, Moitra tried to explain how the country is moving towards fascism.

From terming BJP's nationalism as "superficial, xenophobic and narrow" to accusing the ruling dispensation of disdaining human rights, controlling mass media and obsessing with national security, the Krishnanagar MP gave voice to the TMC which has received a severe jolt from the BJP in West Bengal.

Ironically hailing from a party which had stopped the screening of Bengali political satire Bhobishyoter Bhoot, Moitra attacked the BJP government for disdaining "intellectuals and the arts".

Despite winning four more seats than the BJP's 18 in West Bengal, Moitra, in a similar tune of her party chief Mamata Banerjee, said, "There is an erosion of independence in our electoral system."

However, senior CPI-M leader from West Bengal and former MP, Md. Salim, reminded her that her own party should lead by example on the issue.

"The West Bengal is being divided on religious lines more than ever since independence! It would be great if #MahuaMoitra asks the TMC leadership in West Bengal to abide by things she said in parliament today and lead by example," tweeted Salim.

Twitterati applaud Moitra's speech

Following the speech in the Lok Sabha, several Twitter users, including some politicians, came out in all praises for Mohua Moitra.

Rakesh tweeted, "Simply shows da difference when you elect educated people to the parliament. Only one light in the darkness shall shine more than thousands morons in the house who wer given tickets on calculation of their caste and religion. You go, lady"

Putul Rani Deb said: "The fiery, fierce and highly educated Ms. Moitra has become the target of RW trolls. The poor RW trolls with their inadequate education, poor low-level vocabulary can only give gaali galoch."

Md. Farrukh Ilyas said: "Darkness have not yet deepen in the Democracy yet, here is the Fierce speech by #MahuaMoitra, defining each contemporary lines of Indian Democracy, standing with the thundering voice that echoes in the parliament of India."

Abhishek Chauhan said: "That’s opposition! P.S. : #MahuaMoitra filed PIL leading to annulment of social media hub by government in 2018, and has concern over privacy besides..."

Saswata Mukherjee tweeted, "Of course, this powerful speech by #MahuaMoitra will be a laughing stock for the BJP MPs because they haven't heard anything half as rational. They have a youth icon Tejasvi Surya whose understanding of development post-2014 is Hindu Jagran"

Shikha Singh Tomar said: "A spectacular and powerful speech revealing the reality of mendacious politicians with in the Parliament by Mahua Moitra, A MP from Bengal ."

"Signs of early fascism in our democracy, open your eyes and take note India! Which side of history do you want to be on? Hard hitting speech by TMC MP" said Divya Murali.

Women politicians also appreciate Moitra

Women politicians belonging to other parties- Sushmita Dev and Priyanka Chaturvedi- also hailed the 43-year old TMC MP.

Congress' Dev tweeted, "Congratulations Mahua Moitra for delivering an excellent speech in Lok Sabha. Passionate & precise."

"We may be on different sides of the political spectrum, may even disagree on several points made yesterday but as a fellow woman in politics totally loved Mahua Mitra’s debut speech.Fiery&spirited! Also reminds us yet again why we need more women in our parliament and assemblies" BJP ally Shiv Sena's Chaturvedi said.
