Guwahati, Aug 29 (IBNS): Security forces on Saturday gunned down two hardcore militants belonging to NDFB(S) in Assam's Chirang district, police said.

BTAD IGP Dr LR Bisnoi said that, based on intelligence input, police and army  jointly launched operation at Oxiguri village in the BTAD district on Friday night.

The militant duo was killed during fierce gun fight with security forces in the wee hours of Saturday.

The slain militants were identified as Gwndai and Junthi and security personnel recovered a M16 rifle with magazine, one AK-47 rifle with magazine, one pistol and huge quantity of ammunition in possession from them.

"They were responsible for adivasi massacre on December 23, 2014. They also brutally killed a class 10th student Priya Basumutary in last year, whom they suspected of being a police informer, " Dr Bisnoi said.

Gwndai and Junthi were both platoon commanders of the outfit group.
