Guwahati, July 8 (IBNS): Security forces have arrested two militants of Revolutionary People’s Front (RPF) with ammunition and explosives in Manipur's Imphal East district.

Guwahati, July 8 : Security forces had arrested two militants of Revolutionary People’s Front (RPF) with ammunition and explosives in Manipur's Imphal East district.

According to the reports, a combined team of Imphal East district commando (CDO) and Heingang police had arrested two Revolutionary People’s Front (RPF) militants who are suspected to be involved in Thursday blast triggered at Khabam Chumbreikhong, Imphal East.

The arrested militants were Maibam Kiyamba Meitei alias Sunil and Thoudam Prem Singh alias Premchand.

Kiyamba is presently corporal of the proscribe group, RPF under army number 3208 while Prem is an over ground worker of the group.

Imphal East district Superintendent of Police (SP), Jogeshchandra said that based on intelligence input a team of police commando and Heingang police along with a column of 15 Assam Rifles had conducted an operation in and around Mantripukhri area.

"During the operation the two militants have been arrested from different places where Kiyamba was arrested from the roadside opposite to NRL oil pump Chumbreikhong and Prem from HP oil pump located at Khabam Lamkhai. During interrogation they revealed that they served an extortion notice of Rs 2 lakh at a shop located at Khabam Lamkhai and they came to collect money from the owner of the shop", the Manipur cop said.

The security personnel had recovered five Chinese made hand grenades, one 36 hand grenade, thirteen live ammunitions of AK rifles, three detonators, three hand grenade levers, three hand grenade strikers, three mobile phones along with SIM cards, one wallet and a car from the area.

The arrested militants along with the seized items were handed over to Heingang police for further necessary legal action.
