Two persons killed in Assam grenade blast

Guwahati, Nov 22 (IBNS): Two people were killed in a grenade explosion carried out by suspected ULFA (I) militants in upper Assam’s Sivsagar district on Thursday evenin

According to the reports, the grenade exploded at a hardware shop at Demow area in the district at around 5-30 pm.

One person identified as Anup Gupta died on spot, while one succumbed to his injuries in hospital.

A top police official said that, trader Kamal Agarwal was critically injured and he was immediately rushed to Assam Medical College Hospital in Dibrugarh, where he succumbed to his injuries.

Following the explosion, top police officials rushed to the spot and cordoned off the area.

Security forces have launched an operation against the attackers in the area.

Locals said that suspected ULFA (I) militants were involved in the incident.

Meanwhile, Assam Chief Minister Sarbananda Sonowal has strongly condemned the subversive incident and directed Assam DGP Kuladhar Saikia to take immediate steps to nab the attackers.

The Assam CM also expressed sympathy with the bereaved family of the deceased persons.
