Mumbai, June 2 (IBNS) The Shiv Sena on Monday announced its supremo Uddhav Thackeray as the party's chief ministerial candidate of Maharashtra.

"Uddhav Thackeray will be Shiv Sena-BJP's chief ministerial candidate in Maharashtra Assembly election," Sena leader Sanjay Raut told reporters.

Raecting to Uddhav Thackeray's cousin and Maharashtra Navnirman Sena (MNS) chief Raj Thackeray contesting the upcoming polls, Raut said: "The new Maharashtra CM will be from the Shiv Sena only."

In a major move, Raj Thackeray announced at a rally in Mumbai that he will contest the upcoming Assembly polls in the state.

He also hinted at contesting the election as the Chief Ministerial candidate.

"People have a lot of love for and expectations from our party. If the mandate is for MNS, I will not hesitate to lead it," Raj Thackeray said.

With this announcement, the MNS chief will be the first member of the Thackeray family to contest an election.

Raj Thackarey's MNS lost badly in the Lok Sabha polls.

The Maharashtra Assembly elections are due in October 2014.
