ULFA (I) militant nabbed in Arunachal Pradesh
Guwahati, June 11 (IBNS): Security forces apprehended a militant belonging to banned outfit group ULFA (I) in Arunachal Pradesh.
Kohima based Defence PRO Colonel Chiranjeet Konwer said that, based on specific intelligence about presence of a militant at Phaneng village involved in the recent abduction of Dinanath Upadhyay alias Gopal Prasad, the security forces swiftly launched an operation in conjunction with Assam Police and apprehended a ULFA(I) militant.
Post spot interrogation the nabbed militant was identified as Babu Basumatry alias Hemkanta.
The militant has been actively supporting ULFA(I) activities and has been conducting Extortion and recruitment for the group.
“The militant was implicated in recent recruitment of a female militant Kashmira Mech of the outfit and abduction of Dinanath Upadhyay, manager of Radha Chetia Tea Estate. The prompt and bold action by the battalion resulted in successful apprehension of the militant, ridding the locals of the menace created by him,” the Defence PRO said.
The security forces has been carrying out aggressive operations in the South Arunachal Pradesh and this apprehension has struck a blow to the extortion activities being carried out by the militant of the group in the area.
