Union Minister of Science & Technology Dr. Harsh Vardhan inaugurates new campus of National Institute of Bio-medical Genomics in Kalyani

Kalyani, May 7 (IBNS): Union Minister of Science & Technology Dr. Harsh Vardhan today inaugurated a new campus of National Institute of Bio-medical Genomics at Kalyani, Nadia.

In the inaugural function Dr. Harsh Vardhan said that a large number of people of our country are still deprived of the primary health care.

This Genetics Research Centre of Kalyani has played a very vital role in Cancer Research.

He stressed on the need of co-ordination between different centres in the pursuit of medical research. Dr. Harsh Vardhan said this Genetic Research Centre is the only centre of research in government sector all over the country.

It has embarked on research in the field of oral, cervical and breast cancer. Apart from that the centre is also doing research on different contagious diseases.

The Central government has allocated Rs.210 crore for this centre.

The Director of the Institute, Sharmila Sengupta and Distinguished scholar Prof. Partha Pratim Majumder was also present on the occasion.
