UP ATS arrests 6 suspected ISIS operatives linked to Aligarh Muslim University students' organisation

Aligarh: The Anti-Terror Squad of Uttar Pradesh arrested six suspected ISIS operatives in different parts of the state, media reported.

The arrested individuals are linked to Students of Aligarh Muslim University (SAMU), the university's student organisation, and were acquainted through SAMU meetings, reported India Today.

Four of them have been identified as Rakib Inam, Naved Siddiqui, Mohammad Noman, and Mohammad Nazim.

According to the Uttar Pradesh Anti-Terror Squad, the arrested people were plotting a major terrorist attack in the country, the report said.

The arrests have brought to light a network active within the student organization of Aligarh University.

The Anti-Terror Squad claimed that SAMU meetings have turned into a new recruitment cell for ISIS, it added.

Sources indicate that more Aligarh University students are under the scrutiny of central agencies.

During the interrogation, Rizwan and Shahnawaz, who were arrested by the National Investigation Agency (NIA) in the Pune ISIS module case, it was learned that numerous Aligarh Muslim University students are involved in propagating an anti-national agenda through social media and are connected to the pan-India ISIS network.

Based on Rizwan and Shahnawaz’s interrogation, the UP ATS has arrested a total of six people, so far, in connection with these activities.
