UP: BJP candidate Jai Prakash Nishad files nomination paper for Rajya Sabha bypolls
Lucknow/UNI: BJP candidate Jai Prakash Nishad on Thursday filed his nomination papers for the Rajya Sabha by-election slated to be held on Aug 24.
Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath, his deputy Keshav Prasad Maurya, MLC Vijay Bahadur Pathak, along with senior state ministers and BJP leaders were present during the filing of the nominations at the Central Hall of the state legislature.
The BJP candidate filed four sets of nominations, on the last date to file the nominations.
Nishad is set to get elected unopposed as no other candidate has filed nomination so far.
Sources here said scrutiny of papers would be done tomorrow.
The last date of withdrawal is Aug 17, when the BJP candidate would be declared elected, if there is no other candidate and his nomination papers were found in order.
Nishad, is a former state minister in the BSP government, is the regional vice president of the BJP of Gorakhpur region.
The by-election is being held for the vacant Rajya Sabha seat after the death of SP member Beni Prasad Verma.
SP MP Beni Prasad Verma died after a prolonged illness on Mar 27 last. The tenure of the seat is till Jul 4, 2022.
