Uzbekistan woman held for overstaying in India
Madurai/UNI: An Uzbekistan woman has been arrested for overstaying in India after the expiry of her visa, police said on Monday.
The woman, identified as Naumova Jarina (23) of Uzbekistan came to India on a three month tourist visa in January 2019. Though her visa period ended on March 10, 2019, she continued to stay beyond the expiry period and visited various parts of the country.
She came to Madurai a few days ago and had been staying in a private hotel at West Perumal Maistry Street.
Acting on a tip off, the anti-human trafficking unit police detained her on suspicion and conducted an inquiry. The woman attempted to pretend that she was an Indian National and gave a copy of an Aadhaar card in the name of Robiya Nishan of East Delhi.
But, police inquiries found that the Uzbekistan woman possessed a fake Aadhaar card.
Senior police and intelligence officials were investigating the woman to find out the places where she had visited in the past 11 months.
The Thideer Nagar police have registered a case under relevant sections of the IPC and Indian Passport Act and remanded her in judicial custody.
