Vijay booked in 3 cases over poll code violation ahead of Tamil Nadu polls

Chennai/IBNS: Actor-turned-politician Vijay has faced a setback a week ahead of the Tamil Nadu Assembly elections, with the Chennai Police filing three cases against the Tamilaga Vettri Kazhagam (TVK) chief over alleged violations during his roadshows, according to media reports.

Three cases filed

The cases have been registered at police stations in West Mambalam, Nungambakkam and Vepery.

They were based on complaints filed by poll observers and flying squad officials, who accused Vijay of violating conditions imposed under the Model Code of Conduct.

A flying squad officer, Santhosh Kumar, alleged that a roadshow was conducted despite permission being granted only for a public meeting.

He also claimed that attendance exceeded permitted limits and caused severe traffic disruption.

Who is Vijay in this election?

A third-force challenger

Vijay has emerged as a major new political force in the Tamil Nadu elections.

As the founder of TVK, he has positioned himself as a key challenger to established players like the Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam (DMK) and All India Anna Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam (AIADMK).

TVK is contesting most constituencies independently, with Vijay opting for a solo strategy rather than alliances—marking him as a disruptor in the state’s political landscape.

Campaign strategy

Vijay’s campaign has drawn large crowds during roadshows, underscoring his strong fan base.

At the same time, critics have pointed to limited consistent on-ground presence, with reliance on digital outreach and selective appearances.

Core messaging

  • His campaign centres on:
  • Anti-corruption governance
  • Youth-focused and welfare-driven policies
  • Positioning himself as a “generational change” leader
  • He has also urged party workers to intensify door-to-door outreach in the final stretch.

Potential impact

Analysts believe TVK could dent the vote share of the DMK, particularly among young and first-time voters.

Even without an outright victory, Vijay’s presence could significantly alter the electoral arithmetic in the state.
