Vikramaditya Singh, son of ex-Guv Karan Singh, quits Congress

New Delhi/IBNS: Vikramaditya Singh, son of former Governor Karan Singh, quit the Congress on Tuesday stating that the party "remains disconnected with ground realities".

In his resignation posted on Twitter, the Jammu and Kashmir council member said his position on "critical issues related to J&K which reflect national interests do not align with that of the Congress Party".

"I hereby tender my resignation from the Indian National Congress. My position on critical issues vis-à-vis Jammu & Kashmir which reflect national interests do not align with that of the Congress Party. @INCIndia  remains disconnected with ground realities," the statement said.

Singh, the grandson of former royal Hari Singh, joined the Congress in 2018 and contested the 2019 national election from Uddhampur in Jammu and Kashmir.

Before joining the Congress, he had been in Mehbooba Mufti's People's Democratic Party (PDP).

Congress has performed poorly in the assembly elections in the five states losing its control in Pubjab to the Aam aAadmi Party (AAP).

This year, the party lost former Union Ministers Ashwani Kumar, RPN Singh and Shatrughan Sinha.
