Puducherry, May 29 (IBNS): As the Congress party has picked up former Union Minister of State V. Narayanasamy as the new Chief Minister of Puducherry, violence has erupted in the Union Territory, media reports said.
The supporters of Puducherry Pradesh Congress Committee president A Namassivayam, who was one of the strong contenders for the post, unleashed violence.

The protesters blocked the east coast road disrupting vehicular movement for more than two hours.

They also resorted to throwing stones and damaged windscreens of more than 20 vehicles, including Tamil Nadu state transport corporation buses.

Reports of violence have also been reported from Villianur constituency from where Namassivayam was elected.

He has been elected as Congress Legislature Party leader.

He had served as the Minister of State in the Prime Minister's Office during the UPA regime.

This announcement was made by former Delhi Chief Minister Shelia Dikshit and AICC general secretary Mukul Wasnik who had been deputed as observers by the Congress leadership after holding consultations with newly elected MLAs, The Hindu reported.
