Kolkata, Sept 11 (IBNS): West Bengal government declared 10% Dearness Allowance (DA) for state government employees on Friday.

WB chief minister Mamata Banerjee announced it officially in a convention of the TMC based employees' union- West Bengal State Government Employees’ Federation at Netaji Indoor Stadium here in Kolkata.

Mamata Banerjee said, "I do not make hallow promises. I always thing long-term instead of seeking short-term gains. I do not seek votes by making false promises. We have decided to give 10% DA to govt employees from January next year."

She also announced another pay commission for government employees. "We will form sixth pay commission in October which will work from Jan 1, 2016 till Dec 31, 2025," she said.

Banerjee also announced the formation of a group of ministers, headed by finance minister Amit Mitra, to coordinate the government employees.

She also said that the government had decided to widen the benefit of home travel concession for state government employees.

"While traveling inside the state, you will get benefit of home travel concession every five years. Govt employees will also get Leave Travel Concession (LTC) every ten years. Using the LTC you can travel anywhere in India and in few foreign countries including Thailand, Singapore, Malaysia, Bangladesh, Myanmar, Nepal, Bhutan, Pakistan and Sri Lanka," she added.

Accusing the Congress led UPA-II and BJP led NDA government she said, "Despite financial problems, we are working for the people. Neither BJP nor Congress helped us with a single penny."

Banerjee also said that the state government employees who joined their offices on strike-day would get extra compensatory leave (CL) and who were absent would be punished.

However, after this announcement, WB government employees are lagging behind 44% DA from the central government.
