WB student killing: Three arrested
According to reports, police had detained five suspects after the incident.
After interrogation, three of them- Sk. Sanwar Ali, Sk. Munna and Asim Maity- were arrested and will be produced in the court on Saturday.
Congress Chhatra Parishad (CP) activist Krishna Prasad Jana, a B.A. third year student of Sabang Sajanikanta Mahavidyalaya was allegedly killed during a clash between CP and TMCP inside the college campus in West Midnapore district on Friday afternoon.
West Midnapore SP Bharati Ghosh told IBNS, "The accused are not TMCP activists. We are interrogating the arrested to know about others, involved in this case. We are also examining the CCTV footage of 15 CCTV cameras which were installed inside Sabang College campus."
"We have come to know that Krishna Prasad, the killed student had passed out from the college. So, we are trying know that what he was doing in the college," she said.
Denying allegations, Congress leader and MLA of Sabang, Manas Bhunia told IBNS, "He failed last year , so he was a B.A. third year student of Sabang College. He has not passed out yet. And the TMCP unit president Sk. Sanwar Ali has been arrested, it proves the direct involvement of TMCP in this murder."
Meanwhile, the Congress and four Left student forums are observing education strike in the state on Saturday.
The Congress has also called a 12-hour shutdown in West Bengal's West Midnapore district to protest against the incident. The BJP and the CPI-M are supporting the strike.
The Congress Chhatra Parishad also called for an hour-long statewide 'chakka jam' protest from 11 am on the same day.
However, TMCP denied all allegations against them as state president Ashok Rudra told IBNS, "This is a very bad practice to involve TMCP's name in such incidents. TMCP was not involved in this case. Other political parties should stop politicizing a death."
