Begusarai, May 27 (IBNS): Reacting to a tweet which claimed that a Muslim man was allegedly shot at Bihar's Begusarai area, All India Majlis-e-Ittehadul Muslimeen (AIMIM) chief Asaduddin Owaisi on Monday said people of his community have become 'target practice'.

"Qasim almost lost his life for literally just saying his name. But sure, I am ‘fear mongering’ Where does Rajiv’s brazenness come from? From the top. BJP’s leadership has constantly demonised us & associated us with PakistanWe’re not human in their eyes, we’re target practice," Owaisi tweeted.

A youth named Mohd. Qasim was shot in Bihar's Begusarai area on Sunday after he was asked his name, media reports said.

An FIR has been lodged at the local Cheria-Bariarpur police station of the district but the accused has not been arrested yet,  police told The Hindu newspaper.

A video of the injured youth speaking on the attack has gone viral on the social media.

Qasim, son of Aghanu Mia of Khanjahanpur Panchayat of ward no. 11, was shot at in Kumbhi village under Cheria-Bariyarpur police station on Sunday morning allegedly by Rajiv Yadav of the village, reported The Hindu.

Qasim works as a  detergent salesman.

He had reportedly visited Kumbhi village for his work.

“I was stopped by Rajiv Yadav and he asked me my name…when I told him my name he fired at me and said you should go to Pakistan,” Qasim in the video and the FIR lodged at the local police station, reported The Hindu.

“The attacker Rajiv Yadav was drunk and when he started loading another cartridge in his pistol I pushed him and fled away,” he added further.

Begusarai Superintendent of Police Awakash Kumar told The Hindu : "Yes, Mohd. Qasim has lodged an FIR in the incident at local Cheria-Bariarpur police station and has also named one person in the FIR…we are conducting raid to arrest him but he is at large."

Begusarai remained in the news in recent times as BJP strongman Giriraj Singh fought from the seat and CPI candidate and former JNU student union leader Kanhaiya Kumar had challenged him in the Lok Sabha polls.

Giriraj defeated his opponent by more than 4.5 lakh votes.

Kanhaiya reacted to the incident said he will not sit in peace unless those involved in the incident are punished.
