We don't support Ajit Pawar's decision to support BJP: Sharad Pawar

Mumbai/IBNS: Nationalist Congress Party (NCP) chief Sharad Pawar said his outfit does not support his nephew and party leader Ajit Pawar's decision to support the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) to form the next state government in Maharashtra.

Pawar tweeted, "Ajit Pawar's decision to support the BJP to form the Maharashtra Government is his personal decision and not that of the Nationalist Congress Party (NCP). We place on record that we do not support or endorse this decision of his."

Ajit along with 35 MLAs supported the BJP to form the state government. As of now, the BJP-NCP has the support of 140 MLAs in total while the majority mark is 145.

After a month long political deadlock in the state of Maharashtra, BJP's Devendra Fadnavis took oath as the 19th Chief Minister of the state for a second term on Saturday morning while NCP's Ajit was sworn in as Deputy CM.

The oath was administered by Maharashtra Governor Bhagat Singh Koshyari, here at the Raj Bhawan.

The surprising move comes a day after NCP president Sharad Pawar indicated that a consensus has been evolved on Shiv Sena President Uddhav Thackeray for the top post.
