Kolkata, Dec 9 (IBNS): At least four persons were killed and another was seriously injured when a speeding car hit a truck on National Highway 116-B at Marishda area in West Bengal's East Medinipur district on Friday early morning, reports said.

According to reports, a Digha to Kolkata bound Tata Indica car crashed into a lorry, which was parked beside NH 116-B, at around 5 am. in the morning and it was mangled due to the mishap.

Locals and police from Marishda Police Station rushed to the spot and had started rescue operation.

After being rescued, four passengers of the car and its driver Shambhu Das were taken to Contai Sub-Divisional Hospital, where four of them, including the driver, were declared brought dead.

Police officials said that low visibility due to heavy fog might have led to the accident, while alcohol was reportedly found in all five on board's blood.
