Kolkata, July 7 (IBNS): Rapid acceleration of cyber crime in Bidhannagar area in West Bengal's IT hub in Kolkata has induced the Bidhannagar City Police in association with CDAC and Bharati Airtel Limited to launch a booklet on cyber safety on Monday.

The 28 page multilingual booklet titled ‘Cyber safety’ is likely to increase awareness among the residents. It has a list of threats, suggestions and ways to tackle problems related to cyber world.

”Cyber world is extending day by day, rapid use of internet rises risk of theft, fraud and other types of mal-practices. The criminals are even using latest technologies to conduct various kinds of crimes related to the cyber world. At times we get to these criminals but we are restrained by geographical boundaries.”

“The idea behind this booklet is to inform and educate people to cope up with the world of cyber crime. We would like to thank Airtel for publishing this book,” said Jawed Shamim,  Commissioner of Police, Bidhannagar Police Commissionerate.

Speaking on the occasion West Bengal police director general of police G.M.P Rajasekhar Reddy said: “Today people are academically qualified, each one of us use mobile phones, internet but we are not educated about their pitfalls. The knowledge of the public on these issues is inadequate. “

“This booklet will go a long way in educating people about prevention of cyber crimes” he said.

The book is broadly divided into nine heads on password threats, e-mail security, online scam, social networking risk, ATM threats, online banking, online shopping and mobile security.

“This booklet will be distributed for free at various educational institutes, IT hubs, government offices and people can get free copies of this booklet at their nearest police station. Softcopies of this booklet will be also available in our website” said Kankar Prasad Barui, DCP (DD).

A separate cyber crime police station was inaugurated to deal with complaints against web -related crimes at the Bidhannagar Commissionerate in Salt Lake in April 2015.
