Will force Narendra Modi to waive farm loans: Rahul Gandhi

Voicing his anger over farm distress, Rahul said: "All the opposition parties will force Narendra Modi to waive farm loans. We will not allow him to sleep till he waives farm loans."

"If Modi doesn't do, be rest assured, we (Opposition) will do after coming to power (in 2019)," he added, hinting at a possible defeat of the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) in the upcoming Lok Sabha elections.

Indicating that the farm distress will be one of the key election issues in the upcoming General Elections, Rahul attacked Modi for not waiving farmers' loans while he waived the loans of big investors including Anil Ambani.

"3.5 lakh loans of investors have been waived by Modi. Anil Ambani alone had farm loans up to Rs. 45,000 crore," the Congress chief said.

While accusing the Modi government of not paying heed to the farmers' cry, Rahul didn't forget to highlight the loan waiver by the Congress-led newly-formed Madhya Pradesh government under chief minister Kamal Nath.

Within hours of swearing-in, Nath signed the scheme of farm loan waiver in the state, as it was promised by the Congress in its election manifesto. In various rallies as well, Rahul had said if the first chief minister doesn't waive farm loans, he will appoint a second one to do the task.

Despite suffering a blow in the Supreme Court on Rafale case, Rahul, who had earlier alleged foul play by the union government in buying 36 fighter jets from France, stood firm by his statement even on Tuesday.

Claiming a wrongdoing, Rahul said a Joint Parliamentary Committee (JPC) will probe the case. "Modi robbed money and gave it to Anil Ambani in the Rafale deal," Rahul reinstated.

After receiving a jolt in three assembly elections, the BJP got boosted up by the Supreme Court verdict which stated the process was followed in signing the Rafale deal and also disregarded any need to look into the pricing details.

Interestingly, the union government later pleaded to the top court to correct a detail in the judgement which states the Centre has revealed the pricing details not to the parliament but to the government's auditor. Taking a jibe at the Modi government, Rahul said: "More typo-errors will come. It is just the beginning."

Not commenting on the conviction of now-resigned Congress leader Sajjan Kumar in the 1984 anti-Sikh case, the Congress supremo diverted his attention to demonetisation and Goods and Services Tax (GST).

Not sparing the two moves by the central government which received severe criticisms from the Congress, Rahul said: "Demonetisation is the scam of the world. GST is an attempt to snatch poor people's money and transfer it to the riches."
