Will not air non-certified content in NaMo TV, BJP assures ECI
New Delhi, Apr 13 (UNI) Weeks after controversy erupted over the surreptitious launch of NaMo TV, a 24 hour DTH (Direct – to Home) channel service to telecast Prime Minister Narendra Modi's speech and programmes of the ruling party, the BJP has assured Election Commission that it will air only pre-authorised content.
According to Commission sources, the BJP on Friday responded to the Delhi Chief Electoral Officer after the poll body issued notice to the BJP, which is sponsoring the channel, citing all the content has to be approved by the Media Certification and Monitoring Committee.
Earlier the Election Commission had asked Delhi CEO to scrutinise all the content telecasting the NaMo TV, after opposition parties, including Congress alleged that it violated the Model Code of Conduct.
In the complaint to the Commission, the Congress had alleged that the NaMo TV was disturbing the level playing field at the time of Lok Sabha elections.
“The BJP submitted the content and the Media Certification and Monitoring Committee in the Delhi CEO is examining it”, sources said.
The NaMo TV, which is using Prime Minister’s image for its logo, launched on March 31, after the Election Commission announced the Lok Sabha polls.
Earlier the Election Commission had stalled the release of Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s biopic, 'PM Narendra Modi’, citing it is disturbing the level playing field and hence violating MCC.
