Will work for children and women empowerment, says Smriti Irani after taking charge of WCD ministry

New Delhi, Jun 3 (UNI): Union Minister Smriti Irani took charge over Women and Child Development Ministry here on Monday and said she will work for empowering women and creating a better tomorrow for children of the country.

Irani thanked Prime Minister Narendra Modi for reposing faith on her.

'Grateful to PM Narendra Modi ji for reposing his faith and giving me an opportunity to contribute to the well-being of children & foster Women-led Development. We will continue to fulfil our commitment towards empowering women and creating a better tomorrow for our children,' she wrote on micro-blogging site Twitter.

The Amethi MP has been given additional charge of the Textiles Ministry, a portfolio she held during the first term of the Narendra Modi government.

In the previous cabinet, Ms Irani was given the plum post of human resource development minister and later served as the minister for information and broadcasting also.

On Jun 1, she met her predecessor Maneka Gandhi, who highlighted important issues in the ministry.

'Grateful to Maneka Gandhiji for sparing her valuable time and blessing me. It was extremely kind of her to highlight important issues in the Ministry WCD and guide me on the way forward,' she had tweeted.
