A 32-year-old woman, along with her three minor children, consumed some poisonous substances and committed suicide allegedly after having an altercation with her husband in the Manpur area of Sitapur district here in Uttar Pradesh on Wednesday, a police officer said.

Superintendent of Police (SP) Chakresh Mishra said that Raj Kumari, a resident of Ahmadpur, had an altercation with her husband Sajeevan.

"Piqued by the incident, Raj Kumari, along with her son Sumit (5), daughters Neha (5), and Sandhya (3)," he said.

He said that when the condition of the victims deteriorated, they were taken to the district hospital by family members and villagers.

"Raj Kumari and her three children died during treatment. The bodies have been sent for postmortem examination," he said.

The SP said that Raj Kumari's husband, Sajeevan, has been taken into custody and is being quizzed.

"Legal action is being taken in this regard," he said.
