Yours is a 'Suit-Boot ki Sarkar': Rahul attacks govt in LS

| | Apr 21, 2015, at 12:48 am
New Delhi, Apr 20 (IBNS): In his first speech in the Parliament as an opposition MP, Congress Vice President Rahul Gandhi took on the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) led government at the Centre calling it a 'Suit-Boot ki Sarkar'.
"Yours is a government of big people, it belongs to big corporates, it is a suit-boot ki Sarkar," the Gandhi scion said on Monday during a debate on the agrarian crisis in the Lok Sabha.

His dig at Modi's name-striped suit controversy was made even as Prime Minister Narendra Modi was not present in the House.

Gandhi also made a stern attack on the government and said it has 'failed'.

"On the issue of MSP the Acche Din government has failed this country," he said.

Gandhi said: "During UPA government agricultural growth rate was 4.2 % while during 'India Shining' govt it was just 2.6%.

Agricultural growth is 1 percent, he added.

The second half of the Budget Session of the Parliament commenced from Monday.

Attacking the Government, Gandhi said it is neglecting the farmers and labours in the nation.

Warning the Centre, he said: "You are making a big mistake by hurting the farmers and poor. They are the most powerful and not the big businessmen in their fancy cars."

Targeting the PM, he said: "The PM of this country understands political calculations so he has won the elections. But if he understands politics, why is he angering 60 percent of the people?"

"On one hand you're weakening the farmer. Then when he's weak you'll strike him down with the axe of your Land Ordinance," he alleged.

He was frequently interrupted also by the overwhelmingly larger treasury benches.

Finally union minister Venkaiah Naidu had to request them to allow the Congress leader to speak.

However, his first speech from the opposition benches was missed by his mother Sonia Gandhi who was meeting a farmers' delegation at her residence in Delhi.

Gandhi's back to back attack on the central government and Modi is seen as an attempt at regaining momentum.  The 44-year-old Congress leader was already caught up in controversy over his 57-day long sabbatical that too during a crucial Parliament session.

Flexing political muscles after his sabbatical, Rahul Gandhi assured the farmers in a massive rally on Sunday that he will 'fight their battle' while slamming the Narendra Modi government at the Centre and saying that the Prime Minister aims in making the base of India weak by his 'pro-corporate' measures.
