Youth Congress protests IAF corporal's killing by speeding Audi of TMC leader's son
An Audi Q-7 car, which was registered in the name of a company- Mussadi Business Pvt Ltd- owned by former RJD MLA and presently TMC leader Md. Sohrab's elder son Ambia Sohrab, allegedly broke police barricades at Red Road and hit Airman Abhimanyu Gaud on Wednesday early morning.
Gaud was practicing there for upcoming Republic Day parade.
Gaud was badly injured in the accident and was rushed to Indian Army owned Command Hospital, where he was declared dead.
According to reports, after committing the accident, the killer Audi tried to flee from the spot. Thereafter the accused driver parked his Audi at an area nearby, which was out of CCTV surveillance, on Kidderpore Road and escaped from the spot. Before leaving the car, he tore off the temporary TC (Trande Certificate) number plates, which were attached in the vehicle.
West Bengal chief minister Mamata Banerjee has directed the police to arrest accused driver as soon as possible and to charge him under IPC section 302 (Murder).
The Kolkata Police have already set up a 22-member SIT (Special Investigation Team) to probe the matter. Besides the Kolkata Police, Army Police and Air Force Police have also started investigation into the matter separately, a spokesperson of Ministry of Defence (Bengal area) said.
However, nearly 60 hours after the incident, accused trio- Md Sohrab and his two sons- Ambia and Sambia Sohrab- are still absconding.
