Q (to SD): You have worked with Anjan Dutt in a number of films. How different was this outing?

A. There was not much difference. Anjan-da has a habit of casting a single actor in three-four consecutive films. Yes it is true that this film features me in a lead role for the first time on big screens. Since every actor aspires to feature in a lead role, this film will remain a different experience for me.

Q (to TC): Tell us about your character.

A. My character has different angles in the film. Every character including mine in this film goes through different mannerisms. This gave me an opportunity to explore different shades of a character. Of course my character has a love angle but there is a background to it.

Q (to TC): Could you even remotely identify yourself with this character?

A. Of course. I always look at a script as an audience first. I always judge whether the script excites me or not. I agreed to do the film only because I could connect to the role.

Q (to TC): Does an iconic name like Anjan Dutt work in your decision-making process?

A. It works initially. Of course Anjan-da is the biggest factor but ultimately it's the script that's important. I would turn down the role if I feel I don't fit in the script.

Q (to SD): Your character Subrata Sharma becoming a detective is almost like the way you joined films!

A. My background was not totally bereft of theatre. My first dream was to be a footballer and then an actor. I wanted to be an actor after finishing my football career. Though I could not play the sport for various reasons, I joined acting later after quitting my job. I had only two choices, football and acting. I often wonder how I pursued my job for years!

Q (to SD): Do you feel suffocated by the strict boundaries of an office job?

A. I can't live in a restricted atmosphere. My family says that I am very organised and disciplined.

Q (to SD): Being organised and disciplined helps you in acting, right?

A. I feel it helps me a lot because perfection matters a lot to me.

Q (to TC): How crucial is it to have such a disciplined co-actor on set?

A. I am in no position to judge Suprobhat-da. Based on my experience, I strongly believe many people can be good actors but it's very important to be a good co-actor. An actor's responsibility is to consider the film as supreme and not just his/her craft.

Q (to both): How was Anjan Dutt's shooting floor and his style of direction?

A (from SD): Unlike many filmmakers, Anjan Dutt is not very calculative on the shooting floor. Various emotions and vibes run simultaneously on his set. Since he is also an actor and a writer, Anjan-da remains very emotional on the set.

A (from TC): A director's job is to study the state of mind of an actor and a technician. Anjan-da does that very well. He constantly changes our state of mind and grooms us. It's based on his experience.

A (from SD): One more thing is that Anjan-da never uses a monitor during shooting!

A (from TC): I guess it's because of his schooling. I have spotted many filmmakers not using monitors because that's the way they had learnt their job. I don't know but probably that's the reason Anjan-da never uses a monitor.
