AR Rahman turns 51, Bollywood celebrities wish him

Mumbai, Jan 6 (IBNS): Iconic music composer AR Rahman on Saturday turned 51 as Bollywood celebrities took to Twitter to wish him on the special day of the year.

Filmmaker A.R. Murugadoss tweeted: "Wish you many more happy returns of the day sir, Wishing you great musical years ahead #HBDARRahman."

Singer Mohit Chauhan said: "Happy birthday @arrahman saab..may God always keep u in best of health & spirits.."

Actress Shruti Haasan posted: "Wishing the amazing @arrahman a very happy birthday !!!! ."

Actress Aditi Rao Hydari remarked: "Wishing all the love and more magic to the music maestro @arrahman. Happy birthday, Sir!  You are an inspiration to many! Love, light and happiness to you!  #HBDARRahman."

Singer Shreya Ghoshal posted: "A very happy birthday @arrahman sir. Love, light and happiness to you."

Rahman was born as AS Dileep Kumar in Chennai on Jan 6, 1967.

He gained widespread recognition following his debut as a music director in the film Roja in 1992.

Soon films like Bombay, and Dil Se followed and Rahman maintained his stronghold in the industry.

The new millennium saw him venture into Hollywood and in 2008 he won two Oscars for his work in the film Slumdog Millionaire.

Rahman, described by Time as "the world's most prolific and popular composer" is also a two-time Grammy Award winner.

Among other notable awards, he has won four National Awards, 15 Filmfare Awards and an equal number of Filmfare South Awards.
