Ayush Anand: There are makers who don’t discriminate actors and cast them only on the basis of their talent

Mumbai: Actors are often categorised by the medium they are a part of. While Bollywood actors are given preference, TV stars are often looked down upon.

However, many feel that on OTT there is no such discrimination. Banni Chow Home Delivery actor Ayush Anand says this is really a sad situation and hopes things will change soon.

“Some people do categorise and that’s such a shame. Having said that, there are many makers who don’t and cast them on the basis of one’s talent. Be it OTT, TV, theatre or a film, for me, all are director’s platforms,” he says.

With so many platforms available, there are ample opportunities for many. The reason why many are able to fulfil their acting dreams.

“I believe dreams are not easy or tough, they are visions and purpose of life and if one believes that their purpose of life is acting then they should pursue no matter what. I would say this is a great time to be an actor with so many avenues having opened up, there is enough scope to showcase one’s talent. An upcoming actor can collaborate with an upcoming filmmaker and release content even on YouTube and if it’s good, they will be lauded and get more work,” he adds.

On how the younger lot of actors are different from the seasoned seniors, Ayush explains that every actor is different from one another. Each has their unique style.

“Seasoned actors bring their experience whereas a young talent would bring their raw energy. It needs to be an amalgamation and a perfect example would be the recently released film Jhund. The great Amitabh Bachchan’s experience and the amazing raw energy of the kids was a delight to watch,” he says.

Ayush believes that OTT has created a segment of audience for itself. “Films with a social message won’t work on the big screen anymore (Kashmir files being an exception as it became a movement). Audiences now know what to watch and where, and it’s great for the makers now as they can make a small film with a message and release it on an OTT platform. They know that they can also make a big screen spectacle and release it on the big screen. As far as TV is concerned, I don’t believe OTT has created much of a difference. Progressive shows, if made well, were working before the OTT wave as well and they still are even today. I believe the content irrespective of the genre needs to be engaging, entertaining and engrossing to work with the audience, be it real life inspired or fiction. No two thoughts on that,” he shares
