Baul music is carefree: Parbati baul

Kolkata, Aug 4 (IBNS) Present day generation baul icon Parbati Baul believes while classical music is structured and fettered, baul song is carefree and talks about freedom of soul.

Parbati, the international face of 'Banglar Baul' told IBNS that any duet of classical instrumentation and baul song will be less of a fusion and more of a dialogue process.

"I am looking forward to a possible duet with a legendary classical instrumentalist in next year's rendition of Root Music Festival as suggested by Kalikaprasad (the Dohar folk band frontman and one of the organisers)," she said.

The singer spoke at the backstage after a mesmerising performance in Kolkata's Rabindra Sadan on the last day of Sahoj Parov festival, the three-day folk song extravaganza showcasing the best of traditional yet contemporary folk forms in vocal and instrumentation.

Parbati, who believes in purity of heart as the most important prerequisite for a singer-performer, said any presentation with freshness and internalising the lyrics and showing it through emotion will connect with the audience.

"I can't slot between good and bad music. Who am I. For me music has become my breath, part of my life, a habitof sorts," she said.
