Bengali film invited to San Francisco film fest
Kolkata, July 31 (IBNS) Bratya Basu-Debshankar Haldar starrer Kolikiyug , a mystery thriller also featuring Tollywood actress-turned-politician Locket Chatterjee, has been selected for the Festival of Globe in San Francisco.
The festival, having 3000 entries from the US, Brazil, China, Canada, France, Iran, South Korea, Spain, the UK besides India screens films by invitation only and Kalkijug is one of the two Bengali films having cruised to the 'official selection' round.
"It's a matter of pride for me and other members of the cast. Let's hope it will bring laurels. I liked the script of the young director, the twists and nuances, and instantly nodded to her request," says Bratya Basu, whose film "Natoker Mato" on Bengali group theatre movement in the 60s-70s and an actress's life, is also awaiting release.
"Another incentive is to work with Debshankar with whom I had shared stage space for years," he says.
Bratya, who dwells on autonomy of thinking, says what he means is giving free space to the director on the producer's part which is very significant for a creative work to flourish."
"I myself had often faced this problem in my productions. You are a visionary with certain thoughts but you run out of funds. But again there are people who will have trust in you and that is called giving autonomy to the thinker."
Locket Chatterjee, who describes Bratya and Debshankar as amazing co-actors, sounds enthused to be part of a film by a young director having fresh ideas with whom she will travel to Silicon Valley (San Francisco) in mid-August.
Directed by Debarati Gupta, of Hoi Choi fame, Kolkijug is produced by Macneil group having churned out a number of middle of the road films including Sajarur Kanta, Sesh Anka.
