Starting his acting career on small screens, Shah Rukh caught limelight for the lead role in daily soap 'Circus' which was telecasted on the national television in late 1980s.
Shah Rukh made his Bollywood debut playing a second lead in Rishi Kapoor starrer 'Deewana' where the 55-year old actor had romanced Divya Bharti (now late Divya Bharti).
The Bollywood 'Badshah' rose to fame initially through his anti-hero roles in films like 'Baazigar', 'Darr', 'Anjaam'.
Holding the hands of late filmmaker Yash Chopra, Shah Rukh turned himself into a romantic hero with a timeless, iconic Hindi movie 'Dilwale Dulhania Le Jayenge' which released in 1995.
Later he had almost immortalised on screen romance with 'Pardes', 'Dil To Pagal Hai', 'Kuch Kuch Hota Hai', 'Mohabbatein', 'Kal Ho Naa Ho', 'Main Hoon Na', 'Veer-Zaara', 'Om Shanti Om', 'Jab Tak Hai Jaan'.

Retreating from the so-called mainstream films, Shah Rukh ventured into diverse roles too with 'Ashoka', 'Devdas', 'Swades', 'Paheli', 'Chak De! India' or the recent film 'Dear Zindagi'.
In the last few years of his career, Shah Rukh however, failed to connect with his audience through his films which didn't fare well at the box office.
Following the unsuccessful journey of 2018 film 'Zero', where Shah Rukh played the role of a vertically-challenged person, in the box office, the actor took a long break from silver screens.
Though he is making millions of fans waiting for his next project, Shah Rukh continued with other works as a producer or as the co-owner of Indian Premier League (IPL) franchise Kolkata Knight Riders.
During his career, the onscreen Devdas hosted a number of television shows including 'Kaun Banega Crorepati' which is widely known for acting legend Amitabh Bachchan's hosting.
