Mumbai, Mar 16 (IBNS) One of the most eagerly anticipated films of the year, Udta Punjab has now received a massive studio backing from Ekta Kapoor's Balaji Telefilms.

Directed by Abhishek Chaubey, Udta Punjab features Shahid Kapoor, Alia Bhatt, Kareena Kapoor Khan and Punjabi superstar Daljit Dosanj, who will be making his Bollywood debut with this film.

Udta Punjab, which revolves around the dark drug market of Punjab, marks the association of two creative powerhouses - Phantom Films And Balaji Motion pictures.

According to sources, Ekta was so impressed with the concept that when she heard it, she immediately called Madhu Mantena, who is a producer at Phantom Films to discuss a possible partnership.

At that time, Phantom was in talks with many other production houses, but Ekta's drive and passion easily made her stand apart and the deal was inked.

Commenting on the Association, Vikramditya Motwane said "Balaji were partners with us on our very first Phantom production. It's an emotional relationship and we're delighted to be collaborating with them again on Udta Punjab. It's a script, a director and a cast we're very happy with & we're excited about the way it's come together."  Ekta adds "Udta Punjab is one film I'm most excited about. I’ve always admired the work Phantom does and collaborating with them on a project that boasts of such fantastic talent is exciting."
